BGMI BAN: According to reports, the game has been pulled because of a government order. Indianexpress.com has also reached out to Google for a statement on the removal. BGMI was launched in July 2021. It was launched as a replacement for the popular PUBG Mobile game, which was banned by the government in September 2020 along with several Chinese apps. BGMI was pretty much seen as PUBG Mobile meant for India, though the company insisted that the game was different.

Google issued a statement on the removal, stating, “On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India.”

BGMI's removal comes almost a year after India banned PUBG, a similar title from South Korean developer Krafton. PUBG was banned for its affiliation with the Chinese publisher Tencent Games. Post the PUBG ban, Krafton cut its ties with Tencent Games. The company had then announced that China's Tencent Games would no longer be authorized to distribute the PUBG MOBILE franchise in India. The government banned the PUBG gaming app along with 117 other mobile apps in September 2020. The banned apps were deemed as prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and defence of the country.
